      Detailed Description

Intense aromas of fresh baked cherry pie, cinnamon, plum and candied ginger. The palate is complex with black cherry, amaretto, tea and dried herbs, the tannin's are ripe and voluptuous, especially in a vintage known more for brawn than elegance.

        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: Aged 20 months in French oak, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Onda (510 cases produced) came across as an elegant, Bordeaux-styled wine with a touch of austerity as well as noble red and black fruits intermixed with forest floor, unsmoked tobacco, and a stylish, St.-Julien-like personality. Those who think Napa Valley only makes big blockbusters are advised to check out this beauty of finesse, elegance and mid-weight. It should drink nicely for 10-15+ years.
        • Vinous: This is the first US release of Onda, Dana's second wine, which has previously only been available in Korea. Mocha, espresso, plums, cloves and licorice flesh out in the 2010 Onda. Rich, voluptuous an intense, the 2010 is a great choice for drinking over the next handful of years. The style is decidedly opulent and flashy, but all the elements are in the right place. A distinctly floral, spiced finish rounds things out beautifully. Ideally, readers should give the 2010 another few years in bottle to allow some of the baby fat to drop off. This is a gorgeous showing. Onda is made from the second selection of fruit and/or barrels from Helms, Hershey and Lotus, plus fruit from a fourth site, Crystal Springs Vineyard, which sits just below Lotus.

        Producer Information

Dana Estates is a wine producer of Napa Valley, loccated at the foot of the Mayacamas mountain range. It produces a range of premium single-vineyard wines, mostly from Cabernet Sauvignon with a small inclusion of Sauvignon Blanc. There are three single vineyards spread across the Rutherford and Howell Mountain AVAs. The Helms Vineyard, in Rutherford, is planted solely to Cabernet Sauvignon, and is planted on gentle slopes with well-draining, gravelly loam soils. In Howell Mountain, the Lotus and Hershey vineyards have slightly cooler climates and are both planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, the latter with a small amount of Sauvignon Blanc. In the winery, grapes are fermented in either in concrete tanks, oak uprights or small barrels subject to the character of each vineyard plot. Dana's red wines are all aged in French oak barrels, mostly new, for up to two years depending on the vintage. The Sauvignon Blanc is also aged in barrel, although the percentage of new oak is much less.
