Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon M. Etain is in essence a second wine, but it sure doesn’t taste like one. Its deep purple color is followed by pure black raspberry and blackcurrant fruit, dusty, loamy soil notes, extraordinary depth of fruit, ripeness and good acidity. This opulent, round beauty is ideal for drinking over the next decade or more.
- James Suckling: Features crushed rock, damp earth, cedar and cigar box flavors, with a savory dried herb accent dominating the core of dusty berry, licorice and blackberry. The tannins cling on the finish.
Producer Information
Scarecrow Estate is a wine producer located in the Rutherford AVA in Napa Valley, California. The flagship estate wine, made from Cabernet Sauvignon, regularly receives glowing critic reviews, achieving a perfect 100-point score from Robert Parker for the 2007 vintage. In the early 1900s, Joseph Judson Cohn, chief of production at MGM, moved to Rutherford and purchased a 180-acre (72-hectare) property. In 1939 John Daniel Jr. took over the property that bordered Cohn's, home to the iconic Inglenook vineyard founded by Daniel's great uncle Gustave Niebaum. Daniel convinced JJ Cohn to plant 80 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon (32ha) on his land. This came with the promise that the former would purchase the grapes for the production of his Inglenook wines. On Cohn's death in 1996, the buildings of the estate came under the control of his grandson, Bret Lopez. He also took on 25 acres (10ha) of partially planted vineyard land, and 2 acres (0.8ha) of original 1945 Cabernet Sauvignon.
