Detailed Description

A landmark inaugural release from Michter’s US-1 Barrel Strength Rye, first introduced in May 2015 as a limited single-barrel expression. The rye distillate was entered into new charred American oak at a relatively low 103 proof and matured before being bottled at its natural barrel strength. Rich caramel and vanilla meet intense rye spice, dark chocolate and dried fruit in a powerful yet balanced expression.

Nose: Clove, white pepper and cinnamon with honey, vanilla, chocolate fudge, caramel and a hint of dark cherry.

Palate: Bold and intensely spicy, with clove, cinnamon and black pepper giving way to fudge, honey, vanilla and caramel. Rich toasted oak and dark chocolate add depth beneath the pronounced rye character.

Finish: Long, warming and increasingly dry, with lingering honey, fudge, vanilla, caramel and persistent baking spice.

The distillery is known for highly limited expressions produced with a strong emphasis on barrel selection and extended maturation. Michter’s considers the 17-to-20-year range a critical point in maturation, selecting only exceptional barrels for its 20 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon. The 2014 release was bottled from individual barrels, including exceptionally limited 100-bottle selections, making these early releases particularly sought after by collectors.
