• Vinous: The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon from Tom Seaver's GTS is powerful and savory, with tons of mountain character to back up the potent fruit. Far from an easygoing wine, the 2015 needs time to fully flesh out in the glass. Hints of iron, smoke, cedar, sage and tobacco add striking shades of nuance. The only thing the 2015 is missing is a touch of mid-palate generosity. Hopefully that will develop in bottle.

Producer Information

Seaver Vineyards is a tiny producer of Cabernet Sauvignon in the Diamond Mountain AVA within the Napa Valley. In total only 400 to 550 cases are made each year. The first vintage was the 2005; the wines were released in 2008. Four clones of Cabernet Sauvignon are planted in a 3.5 acre (1.4 hectare) plot on a south facing slope of Diamond Mountain itself. At the start two wines were made; the GTS and Nancy's Fancy (now known as NLS). These were based on the two main blocks of the vineyard. In 2008 the maturation of the vines encouraged Seaver to blend GTS from both blocks. Since then, the company has decided on a year by year basis whether to release a whole vineyard GTS wine, or single block GTS and NLS wines.
