Capezzana wines were produced under the Chianti designation until Carmignano was awarded its own DOC status in 1975 and DOCG status in 1990. The classification came about following a campaign of local producers, of which Capezzana was one of the most significant. Sangiovese is the most significant red variety of the portfolio, often blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The most important white varieties are Trebbiano and Malvasia.
