Brassfield Estate Winery is a massive, highly respected producer in Lake County, California, established in 2000 by entrepreneur Jerry Brassfield, who originally acquired the expansive property as a cattle ranch in 1973. Spanning a monumental 5,000 acres across the High Valley AVA—an appellation that Brassfield famously helped petition into official recognition in 2005—the estate features roughly 500 acres under vine nestled at dramatic, high-altitude elevations ranging from 1,800 to nearly 3,000 feet. Guided by winemaker Carlos Valadez and consulting winemaking icon David Ramey, the producer leverages an astonishingly complex mosaic of microclimates, massive diurnal temperature swings, and mineral-heavy, volcanic tephra soils formed by the property's own dormant Round Mountain Volcano. They specialize in an entirely 100% estate-grown, sustainably farmed, and bottled lineup of 17 varietals, most notably captured in their flagship "Eruption" volcanic red blend, crisp Sauvignon Blanc, and deeply structured, tiered mountain Cabernet Sauvignons.
