      Detailed Description

The 2016 Calos Reserve Malbec from Cahors, France, is a deep, inky red wine with rich dark fruit flavors, elegant oak spice, and a cool mineral finish.

      Producer Information

Les Vignobles Saint-Didier Parnac, the driving force behind the acclaimed Calos Reserve Malbec, is a highly respected wine producer located in Parnac at the absolute heart of the Cahors AOC in Southwest France. Rather than a single standalone boutique winery, the brand operates as an expertly managed growers' collective that leverages a wide network of multi-generational farming families across the region to maintain exceptional viticultural standards. The "Calos" label itself is named after the region’s famous "calos"—the stony, gravelly terraces and steep chalky clay slopes carved by the Lot Valley river that force Malbec roots deep into the limestone subsoils. Adding a unique cross-continental pedigree to the estate, the winemaking has been guided by legendary vintners Hervé and Diane Fabre; after achieving global fame for pioneering world-class, 100-point Malbecs in Mendoza, Argentina, the duo returned to the grape's historical French homeland to craft the Calos lineup. The resulting Calos Reserve and Grande Réserve expressions—frequently capturing high 90-plus point ratings from critics—represent a refined, modern face of the traditional Cahors "black wine," spending up to 10 to 12 months in oak barrels to marry deep, concentrated dark plum fruit with the signature, firm mineral undertow characteristic of Old World terroirs.
