It was founded by Enzo Pontoni in 1985 and is particularly known for its scarce, yet high-quality yields from which it produces fewer than 700 cases of wine per annum. The 10 hectare (25 acre) vineyards are densely planted with a high proportion of Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot vines, as well as smaller parcels including Refosco, Friulano, Malvasia, Chardonnay and Ribolla. The mineral-rich soils found in the vineyards consist of ponca, as it is known in the local dialect of Friuli, and is made up of layers of calcareous clay and sandstone.
