Deep purple black with a narrow magenta rim. High notes of pure, intense woodland fruit with lively accents of green apple, fresh plum and raspberry. Around this core of bright, singing fruit is a heady aura of gumcistus and wild herbs. On a deeper register, exotic notes of cedarwood and jasmine provide an additional dimension of complexity.

• Wine Spectator: This is packed with raspberry, blackberry and blueberry fruit flavors that play off one another, melding with anise, fruitcake and ganache notes. A warm tarry edge coats the finish, revealing an echo of bramble.

• James Suckling: This is really the most amazing young Taylor's I have ever tasted. Full-bodied and lightly sweet with super power and intensity. So racy and focused. Yet this has such muscle and intensity.

Taylor's is one of the most important Port houses in the Douro region of northern Portugal. It is notable for its wide range of traditional ports, from vintage expressions to tawny ports of various ages, and also for its creation of the Late Bottled Vintage, or LBV, style.Unlike many other houses, which include a range of dry red wines in their portfolios, Taylor's only makes Port. The portfolio includes a series of bottle- and wood-aged Ports including vintage, LBV, single-harvest and white Port.While best-known among winelovers for its single-vintage releases, Taylor's also boasts two single-estate offerings. The highly-regarded Quinta de Vargellas (purchased in 1893) represents the heart of the business. It lies in the western part of the Douro Superior and has 67 hectares (166 acres) of vines.
