Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: The 2016 Finca Canal Uco comes from the traditional part of Altamira across the street from the Piedra Infinita vineyard, with slightly deeper soils, less limestone and more ripeness and slightly more generous wines. Here, they do their best to avoid sweetness in the wines through ripeness. But the wine is the expression of the place, a different interpretation of Altamira, with a little more fruit in the nose and some notes reminiscent of a wine from the Northern Rhône: olives and iron and slightly coarser tannins. There will be people that prefer the power here and others that like the austerity of Piedra Infinita. 6,300 bottles were filled in February 2017..
- Wine Spectator: This is a deep and rich wine with balance and intensity. Dark fruit with iron and rust undertones. Full-bodied, chewy and tannic with a flavorful finish. Opulent yet subtle.
Producer Information
Familia Zuccardi is a family-run winery based out of the Bodega Santa Julia in the Mendoza region of Argentina. The company boasts numerous brands, each with a wide range of wines, covering classic Argentinian varieties (the wines are often varietally labeled) as well as numerous styles including sweet and sparkling wines. Zuccardi produced the country's first premium Tempranillo and also runs olive oil brand Zuelo.Founder Alberto Zuccardi moved to Mendoza in the 1940s from Tucumán, over 900km (560 miles) north, where his grandparents had settled after emigrating from Avelino, Italy.Due to the scarcity of water in the Mendoza region, Alberto experimented with a new irrigation system and, wanting to prove its worth to his neighbors, he planted a vineyard in Maipu. The experiment led to Zuccardi becoming one of the most prominent and prosperous wineries in Argentina.
