Producer Information
Champagne Marguet Père & Fils is a small, family-run Champagne producer based in the village of Ambonnay with Grand Cru vineyards in both Ambonnay and neighboring Bouzy in the Montagne de Reims subregion. In keeping with the region, many of Marguet's wines are Pinot Noir-dominant although Chardonnay does figure in several cuvées. The estate, which counts some eight hectares (20 acres) of its own vineyards, is run by fifth-generation Champagne producer Benoît Marguet who trained at Champagne Mumm and worked in the USA. All the company-owned vineyards are run biodynamically and the wines are produced with minimum intervention. Marguet produces several ranges: Yuman, the premier cru labels produced in Blanc de Blancs and Blanc de Noirs styles; Shaman, the grand cru line produced in standard and rosé bottlings; a range of single-commune, grand cru Champagnes bearing the name of the commune (e.g. Ambonnay, Ay) and capped with turquoise neck foils; a range of single-vineyard, lieu-dit Champagnes bearing the title of the vineyard and capped with golden neck foils; the Sapience and aged Sapience Oenothèque cuvées; a still red and a still white Coteaux Champenois, both from Pinot Noir; and a still red and a still white Coteaux Champenois made from Ambonnay-grown Pinot Noir and Chardonnay respectively and bearing the village title. All the wines are certified biodynamic by Demeter and organic by AB Europe.
