      Detailed Description

Impressive and charming nose with balanced and rich flavors. Great elegance and length on the finish.

        Producer Information

Richard Leroy (officially R. Leroy) is a well-regarded minimal intervention wine producer based in Rablay-sur-Layon, in the Coteaux du Layon wine region of Anjou, in the Loire Valley of western France. Leroy produces a range of wines, predominantly Chenin Blanc-based whites, covering numerous appellations, from Coteaux du Layon and Anjou to Vin de France. Also sometimes refered to as Domaine Sophie et Richard Leroy, the estate was established by the husband-and-wife team in the late 1990s when they purchased a block of vines in Rablay. Since then, the domaine covers almost three hectares (7.5 acres) across two vineyard sites: Les Rouliers and Les Noëls des Monbenault. Although production initially began with the sweet white wines typical of the region, this progressed towards drier white wines as the domaine progressively eliminated sulphur use in its winemaking. The last sweet wine was reportedly produced in 2005 with sulphur being phased out of winemaking completely in 2011. Although sometimes declassified or varying in appellation title, the domaine makes two flagship cuvées: Les Rouliers and Les Noëls des Monbenault. Richard Leroy was the protagonist of the 2011 bande dessinée (comic) book Les Ignorants, which followed his viticulture and winemaking philosophy over the course of a year. The book was a huge success, especially in French wine circles.
