      Detailed Description

The 2018 Château Mont-Thabor Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a deeply inviting, vibrant red wine that balances old-vine richness with a lively, fresh-fruited profile.

      Producer Information

Château Mont-Thabor is a historic, family-run organic wine estate located in BÊdarrides, within the eastern perimeter of France's renowned Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. Originally a 17th-century estate that served as a mystic retreat for the Illuminati and later a post house for stagecoaches, the property was purchased in 1881 by Swiss immigrant Fritz Stehelin, who converted its old stables into a winemaking cellar. Today, the boutique, five-generation estate spans just 4 hectares of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and 6 hectares of Côtes-du-Rhône, managed by Daniel Stehelin alongside his daughter Fanny and vineyard partner Vincent. Working out of a discreet, rustic facility, they craft fewer than 10,000 bottles of their singular, highly traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape red wine annually. This expressive bottling relies heavily on non-destemmed, 75-to-80-year-old old-vine Grenache grown on pebble-strewn clay soils, blended with Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault, and aged for 12 months in a mix of concrete tanks and older French oak barrels to deliver a powerful, fresh, and deeply structured profile.
