Clos de Luz, launched commercially in 2015 by winemaker Gabriel Edwards and his brothers, is an exceptional family estate situated in the Almahue Valley within Chile's larger Rapel and Cachapoal Valley regions. Though the estate has been in the family for six generations since 1892, the heart of the winery lies in a 33-hectare vineyard planted in 1945 by Gabriel’s visionary grandmother, Luz Pereira. These precious vines represent some of the oldest Carménère vineyards in the world; remarkably, they are 100% ungrafted and preserved via massal selection. Sheltered by hillsides in a unique microclimate that mitigates frost and captures cooling Pacific breezes, the estate produces elegant, non-interventional, and lower-alcohol wines. Fermented with native yeasts and aged carefully in used barrels and large 3,000-liter French oak foudres, their flagship Massal 1945 Carménère and Luz cuvées are celebrated globally for eschewing highly extracted, overly oaky New World styles in favor of vibrant, red-fruit-driven, and mineral-precise expressions.
