Welcome to the spice cabinet! Deep, dark and unctuous, this is an enormously spicy gewurz that’s got so much structure (great tannins, like a top red!) that the sweetness is pushed into the background.

      Detailed Description

Welcome to the spice cabinet! Deep, dark and unctuous, this is an enormously spicy gewurz that’s got so much structure (great tannins, like a top red!) that the sweetness is pushed into the background. And the super long finish is so graceful that even a gewurz skeptic like me is seduced. From biodynamically grown grapes.

        Reviews:

        • Wine Enthusiast: Ripe Mirabelle, candied tangerine and barley-sugar notes dance on the intense nose of this wine. On the palate these flavors burst with tempered sweetness, reveling in the intense pithiness of tangerine zest. This wine is concentrated, elixir-like and sweet, yet racy with citrus and appetizing with its intense juiciness.
        • Wine Spectator: This shows fine balance, with well-cut acidity and a zesty thread of pink grapefruit peel providing precisely enough verve to keep the rich baked pineapple, dried apricot, honeycomb and toasted cardamom notes from ranging into opulence. Fragrant and floral on the creamy finish.

        Producer Information

The Domaine Zind-Humbrecht was created in 1959 by the merging of two families, that on Zenon Humbrecht, viticulteur in Gueberschwihr, and that of Emile Zind, viticulteur in Wintzenheim, with the marriage of their children, Leonard Humbrecht and Ginette Zind. Before this date both families produced and sold their wines separately. Domaine Humbrecht had been passed from father to son since the Thirty Years War (1620). The vinification is now in the hands of Oliver Humbrecht, son of Ginette and Leonard. In 1995, Robert Parker called Oliver's 1993's "The wine of a genius".
