Producer Information
Borie-Manoux is a well-known négociant house, wine producer, and significant wine merchant group in Bordeaux that exports to more than 90 countries worldwide. The firm was established in Pauillac in 1870 by Pierre Borie and moved to the city of Bordeaux in the 1940s. It has been owned and run by the Castéja family for several generations. Today, Borie-Manoux is one if the last independent and family-owned négociant houses in the region. The company owns more than 10 châteaux including its flagship, Château Batailley in Pauillac, Château du Domaine de l'Église in Pomerol, Château Beau-Site in Saint-Estèphe, and Château Trotte Vieille in Saint-Émilion. Château Batailley was the first estate acquired by Borie-Manoux and is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. The château is a Fifth Growth from the Bordeaux Classification of 1855 and produces a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant wine from vines averaging 40 years old. The 57-hectare (141-acre) property has silica and gravel soils and is planted to Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Some 300,000 bottles of this flagship wine are produced annually. During the twentieth century Borie-Manoux acquired several Bordeaux wine merchant houses including Turpin Frères, Henri Moreau and Albert Duverger. The company also has a majority share of Drouet Frères in the Loire, which produces white, red, and rosé wines from the region. Borie-Manoux produces wines under the label Beau Rivage – value-driven Bordeaux Blanc and Rouge from the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation. The wines are made to be fruit-forward and are 100 percent tank-fermented and -matured.
