Historically, there is evidence that grapes were planted here in the Middle Ages but it was not until the 17th Century, with the amalgamation of two properties (the \"tenement of Pellecahus\" and Lagrange) that the genesis of the current property was formed under the noble title of Lagrange de Monteil. The estate was passed between many well-known wine merchants and families throughout the 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries until the current owners, Japanese drinks giant Suntory, purchased the estate in 1983. The wider estate covers 118 hectares (291 acres) with red grape varieties broken up between Cabernet Sauvignon (67 percent), Merlot (28 percent) and five percent Petit Verdot.
