      Detailed Description

The 2019 Clau de Nell Anjou Cabernet Franc Magnum is a magnificent, biodynamic masterpiece from the Loire Valley, offering a vibrant and silky expression of old-vine Cabernet Franc.

      Producer Information

Domaine Clau de Nell is an exceptional, biodynamic wine estate located in the heart of the Anjou region within France's Loire Valley, originally founded in 2000 and famously rescued in 2008 by the late Domaine Leflaive icon Anne-Claude Leflaive and her husband Christian Jacques. Named after its former owners Claude and Nelly Pichard, the 12-hectare estate is managed day-to-day by winemaker Sylvain Potin, who maintains a strict, Demeter-certified biodynamic philosophy across ancient, low-yielding vines averaging 60 years of age. Situated in Ambillou-Château on a unique geological convergence of sandstone gravel and red flint (silex) over deep, moisture-regulating Tuffeau limestone, the vineyards are cultivated with microscopic yields kept under 30 hectoliters per hectare. In the cellar, which is carved directly into the estate's limestone troglodyte caves, Potin employs a transparent, low-intervention approach utilizing hand-harvesting, natural spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, gentle whole-cluster or destemmed macerations, and maturation in neutral oak barrels without chemical additives or heavy fining. The resulting portfolio—anchored by serious, textural expressions of local Grolleau, perfumed Cabernet Franc, and vibrant, energetic Chenin Blanc planted under Anne-Claude's vision—translates rustic regional varieties into chiseled, elegant, and profoundly complex wines of world-class distinction.
