The estate is made up of four different quintas. The flagship wine comes from the Quinta do Bom Retiro vineyard in the Pinhão parish of Cima Corgo. Pinto purchased this 62 hectare (153 acre) quinta in 1919, and 40-percent of the vineyard is still planted in the traditional way, with grape varieties mixed throughout the vineyards. The Urtiga vineyard, covering just 4ha (10 acres) is located next door. The other major estate is Ervamoira, at Touça in the Douro Superior. Pinto bought this vineyard in 1974 and broke new ground by planting in vertical rows up the slopes, and planting by variety based on the vineyard's soil types, rather than in the traditional mix. Nearby is Quinta dos Bon Areas, which was added to the portfolio in 1985. The vines here provide fresher, less-concentrated grapes than the other sites, which are typically used in blending. The Ramos Pinto portfolio covers most of the typical Port styles, including white, tawny and ruby variants as well as several aged tawnies and LBVs.
