      Detailed Description

The ocean breezes mean that Fleurieu peninsula is one of the cooler parts of South Australia, making it the perfect place to grow Cabernet Sauvignon, a grape that loves a sea breeze. The name is a bit of a giveaway, because this wine majors on blackberry fruit alongside leather and cigar box notes. This would be a great Sunday lunch wine, especially if you're having roast beef. Classic warm climate Cabernet nose of blackcurrants and bramble. Ripe full palate balanced by some fresh acidity, fine tannins and some aromatic tobacco notes.

      Reviews:

      • Michael Godel: Once again the Canto eschews barbera for blending agent and partner lagrein to complement sangiovese with the purity of its light and transparent voice. The “Song” is a wine from a vineyard gracing the soft shores of Lake Alexandrina in Langhorne Creek. Don't be thinking Tuscany, Umbria or Emilia-Romagna but count on Fleurieu to gift sangiovese with strong will lifted by northern Italy’s honest grape. The juxtaposition is timeless and jumps between continents, creating sets of synergies and symmetries. Nice wine once again.
      • David Lawrason: The relatively cool, maritime Fleurieu Peninsula and adjacent McLaren Vale have become hot spots for cooler climate European varieties - in this case a pair of Italians. It has fragrant nose of raspberry, red rose, vague pepper and dried herbs (bay leaf, rosemary). It is medium weight, quite intense with tartish acidity and plenty of green tannin. Certainly feels somewhat Italian, but with Aussie ripeness. A bit astringent in the end. Needs to coalesce, so a couple of years in the cellar wouldn't hurt.

      Producer Information

Zonte’s Footstep is a proudly independent Australian wine producer established in 2003. We take our vineyards and our wine, but not ourselves, too seriously. Our grapes are sourced from our own, as well as our mates’ vineyards, from regions that produce the desired expressive, varietal characteristics of the grapes grounded by the soil they are planted in. Located in the McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek, Adelaide Hills, the Barossa and further afield. Hence the simple, but diligent pursuit of producing wines that reflect a sense of place, style and purpose. We have always aimed to bottle wines with personality and expression… that’s why we gave them names and a face of their own!
