Solidly built, with a bright violet note leading the way, followed by cassis and blackberry flavors that are vivid and defined. Shows apple wood and bramble notes that add a grippy, juicy feel to the finish, while an iron note adds cut and drive.

• Wine Advocate: Sporting a deep purple-black color, the 2020 Langoa Barton needs a little swirling to unlock youthfully muted scents of warm cassis, black cherry preserves and boysenberries, plus hints of menthol, graphite, tilled soil and bouquet garni. The medium-bodied palate is delicately played with impressive freshness delivered by the red berry and herbal sparks within a black-fruit core, with grainy tannins to support, finishing long and invigorating.

• James Suckling: Very pretty blackberry and blueberry character with blackcurrants and mint. It’s medium-to full-bodied with linear, tight tannins that are polished and fine.

Producer Information

Chateau Langoa Barton was bought by Hugh Barton in 1821. This was some 30 years before the classification of 1855 and Hugh was not to know that Langoa would be classified as a 3rd growth. It was perhaps the architecture and the beautiful facade that attracted him. Since the property has remained in the family and today the shares are divided between Anthony Barton, his daughter Lilian Barton Sartorius and her two children Melanie and Damien, thus reaching out to the 8th generation. The vineyards are situated at the southern end of the appelation Saint Julien and the style of the wine is best described as typical Saint Julien. This means a wine of great elegance and finesse with subtle flavors.
