      Detailed Description

The 2021 Boars' View BDR Pinot Noir is a rich, structured California red wine with dark cherry, wild herbs, and a smoky earth finish.

      Producer Information

Boars' View is an elite, highly allocated cult boutique wine estate situated atop a rolling ridge line in the remote Fort Ross-Seaview AVA within the extreme West Sonoma Coast West Sonoma Coast Vintners. Founded in 2007 by iconic Napa Valley pioneers Fred and Carol Schrader (of Schrader Cellars fame) alongside their partners David and Judy Steiner, the project was born from a collective desire to craft profound, California heritage-clone expressions that challenge Burgundy's finest Boars’ View. Spanning roughly 10 to 14 acres planted on a rolling hilltop sitting nearly 1,000 feet above sea level, the estate is dramatically situated just two ridgelines in from the Pacific Ocean and shares an immediate boundary fence line with the legendary Marcassin Vineyard Boars’ View. The vineyard's management was masterfully developed by the late, legendary viticulturist Ulises Valdez Sr., who matched distinct heritage clones to the estate’s hyper-specific coastal soils. They cultivate roughly nine acres of Pinot Noir across goldridge loam sections utilizing a prized selection of Calera, Mt. Eden, and Swan heritage clones, and nearly two acres of Wente clone Chardonnay planted in a small, dense parcel of coastal clay soil. In the cellar, world-renowned winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown directs the winemaking process with a non-interventional, highly structured framework tailored for luxury concentration and longevity: Pinot Noirs undergo gentle extraction, spontaneous fermentation, and are aged for 10 months in premium French oak barrels before being bottled entirely unfined and unfiltered. This uncompromising craftsmanship yields an exclusive annual production of roughly 1,100 cases—spanning their flagship The Coast Estate Pinot Noir, the rich BDR Pinot Noir, and an opulent, mineral-driven Estate Chardonnay—which are highly sought after by global collectors.
