Producer Information
Château Lynch-Bages is an iconic, world-renowned wine estate located in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux's Left Bank, officially classified as a Fifth Growth in the historic 1855 Médoc Classification but widely celebrated for consistently performing at the level of a Second Growth. Founded in 1749 by Irish merchant Thomas Lynch, the estate has been masterfully stewarded across four generations by the Cazes family since 1939. Spanning roughly 100 to 105 hectares on the gravelly Bages plateau overlooking the Gironde estuary, the vineyard is planted predominantly to Cabernet Sauvignon (around 71–73%), alongside Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, utilizing satellite precision mapping and sustainable massale selection from vines older than 50 years. In the cellar, technical director Nicolas Labenne oversees a highly sophisticated, gravity-fed winemaking workflow housed in a striking, state-of-the-art facility designed by architect Chien Chung "Didi" Pei, which debuted with the 2020 vintage and doubled their capacity to 80 temperature-controlled vats for hyper-precise parcel-by-parcel vinification. The estate’s legendary red grand vin undergoes malolactic fermentation partially in barrel and is aged for 18 months in 75% new French oak, yielding a textbook Pauillac style celebrated for its deep color, powerful structure, luxurious opulence, and extraordinary aging potential.
