      Detailed Description

The 2021 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées wafts from the glass with aromas of dark wild berries spices orange zest and gunpowder. Medium to full-bodied rich and concentrated it's deep and enveloping with a layered core of fruit powdery tannins and a long spice-inflected finish.

      Reviews:

      • Vinous: The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru is a step up from the Les Suchots though it was the only cuvée to be racked. Dark plummy fruit sous-bois crushed stone and light clove scents complex and engaging. The palate possesses unerring symmetry exquisite balance and poise with a pixelated finish. This is Aux Brûlées at its most finessed.
      • Burghound: The expressive nose conveys instantly that the aromas could be from nowhere other than Vosne with its cool and pure combination of red and dark berries Asian-style spices especially star anise sandalwood and impressive array of floral elements. There is excellent richness and mid-palate density to the powerful serious stony and strikingly long finish that is supported by bright acidity and a firm core of ripe tannins. Extended patience will absolutely be required here. This too is warmly recommended.

      Producer Information

Gérard Mugneret is a Burgundy producer based in Vosne-Romanée. It practices organic and biodynamic farming and produces Pinot Noir from regional, village, premier cru and grand cru vineyards. The vineyard holdings span some 8.5 hectares (21 acres) of land across the Côte d'Or. This includes land in five Premier Cru sites: Les Gravains in Savigny-les-Beaune, Les Charmes in Chambolle-Musigny, Les Boudots in Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Les Brulées and Les Suchots in Vosne-Romanée. The estate's top bottling is from the Echézeaux Grand Cru vineyard. Mugneret uses around 33 percent new French oak for barrel maturation, and up to 50 percent for some of the Premier Cru appellations. The wines age up to 18 months in barrel and are racked just once, then bottled unfined and unfiltered. Gérard Mugneret produces its regional Bourgogne AOC and Bourgogne Passetoutgrains wines without the use of new oak. The Gérard Mugneret domaine was founded in the late 1960s by Gérard Mugneret's father, René – Gérard became the estate's vigneron in 1973. In 2005, Gérard's son Pascal joined the family business and now manages the estate.
