2022 | Vera de Estenas | Casa Don Angel Bobal

A powerful and elegant single-varietal Bobal made as a serious, age-worthy red from the historic Vera de Estenas estate. The 2022 vintage is matured for 18 months in Allier oak, integrating ripe black and red fruit with refined toasted and balsamic notes. The palate is dry, full-bodied and richly textured, with fresh acidity and firm yet mature tannins. Long and polished, it combines dark fruit, vanilla, cedar and spice with the distinctive mineral character of Bobal.

Producer Information

Vera de Estenas is a historic wine estate based just south of the town of Utiel, in the Utiel-Requena region of western Valencia in southeast Spain. Since 2019, the estate is officially classified as one of Spain's top-tier Vinos de Pago zones. For more on the estate's Vino de Pago classification, see the Vera de Estenas Vino de Pago page. The current estate owners date their presence on the site from 1876 with generational changes of ownership bringing in new varieties including Tempranillo (in the 1940s) and, in the 1980s, the likes of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Nonetheless the estate is a prominent producer of regional workhorse Bobal and the grape features in many of the rosé and red wines. Vera de Estenas also produces sparkling Cava although such cuvées do not fall under the Vino de Pago classification. Indeed, many labels produced under the estate label are not covered by the Vino de Pago denomination.
