      Detailed Description

The 2023 Joseph Colin Saint-Aubin Premier Cru Clos du Meix is a vibrant, razor-sharp white Burgundy that captures the pure, energetic tension of its steep, high-altitude limestone terroir.

      Producer Information

Domaine Joseph Colin is an elite boutique estate based in the village of Saint-Aubin within Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, officially launched with a tiny 2016 run before its first full commercial vintage in 2017. A member of white Burgundy royalty, founder Joseph Colin is the son of legendary vigneron Marc Colin and the younger brother of icon Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey (PYCM). Having worked diligently at his family’s property since 1993, Joseph followed a proud Burgundian tradition by peeling away 6.5 hectares of choice, inherited family plots in Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, and Puligny-Montrachet to chart his own path. In the vineyards, he follows a strict, uncertified organic layout where he dramatically limits yields to just six or seven bunches per vine, while his cellar work features an ultra-low-intervention, minimalist philosophy engineered for maximum transparency and mineral tension. For his critically acclaimed Chardonnays, the grapes are gently whole-bunch pressed, undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous wild yeasts, and age entirely on fine lees in larger 350L and 500L barrels with minimal new oak (only 10–15%) and absolutely no settling, racking, or bâtonnage. Notably, Joseph is a vanguard experimenter in minimizing sulfur dioxide (SO₂), intentionally keeping pH levels low so he can withhold adding any sulfur at all until the final racking before gravity bottling without filtration. This painstaking craftsmanship spans an astonishing array of over 19 distinct cuvées—ranging from his entry-level Bourgogne Compendium to highly prized Saint-Aubin Premier Crus like En Remilly and La Chatenière, up to microscopic holdings in Grand Crus like Bâtard-Montrachet—yielding masterfully taut, chiseled, and laser-focused wines that marry raw energy with complex, limestone-driven salinity.
