The idea for 42 Below Vodka came to its inventor Geoff Ross when he was flying in a magazine and stumbling across an ad for a vodka advertising the purity of its country of origin. As a New Zealander, Ross felt his honour was at risk because he believed that few countries could compete with his homeland in matters of purity. Just a few years after 42 Below was founded, the brand's products were among the most sought-after premium vodkas in the world. Due to its success in New Zealand, Ross decided to enter the vodka in all the major spirits competitions in the world - the vodka decided each one of them for itself.
