Balblair 1983 1st Release Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The expression of the Balblair Highland single malt was distilled in 1983 and matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels.Bottled in 2014 at a strength of 46% abv, this expression was the first release of the 1983 vintage. Established in 1790, Balblair is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and the oldest working distillery in the Highlands.

Nose: Warm aromas of butterscotch, toffee and vanilla with sweet citrus coming through.

Palate: Sweet and spicy with banana, fudge and caramel notes, fresh fruitiness.

Finish: Long and full bodied with luscious butterscotch.

Distillery Information

Balblair Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located in Edderton, Ross-shire, Scotland. Founded in 1790, the distillery was rebuilt in 1895 by the designer Charles C Doig to be closer to the Edderton Railway Station on the Inverness and Ross-shire Railway line. However, so good was the original water source that the rebuilt distillery chose to ignore a nearby burn in favour of the original Ault Dearg burn. To this day, the Balblair Distillery denys to use this original water source.
