Matured in a single Port cask and bottled at 59.6% ABV, it is a bold Highland single malt where the cask brings a darker, fruit-led edge to the distillery’s naturally weighty style. Port casks work especially well with Ben Nevis, adding layers of berry fruit, plum and chocolate while still leaving room for the spirit’s structure and character to show through. Here, the result is a rich, full-bodied whisky, with the sweetness of the cask balanced by spice, oak and the firm profile that suits Ben Nevis so well.

Nose: Dark berries and plum mingle with cocoa and orange peel, touched by soft spice and seasoned oak.

Palate: Rich and mouth-coating, it unfurls notes of black cherry and dark chocolate, lifted by sweet spice, with warming oak underpinning a confident, full-bodied profile.

Finish: Long and warming, the finish lingers with red fruit and cocoa, fading into gently drying wood.

Distillery Information

‘Long’ John Macdonald took out a licence for his Ben Nevis distillery on the outskirts of Fort William in 1825. His son Peter took up the reins soon after and built a significant business and by the end of the 19th century, when blended Scotch was becoming the fashion, Long John’s Dew of Ben Nevis was a successful brand.
