Hot Chocolate is an intensely rich 11-year-old Braeval single malt, distilled in 2014 and fully matured in a powerful Pedro Ximénez sherry cask before bottling at natural cask strength in 2026. The PX maturation transforms Braeval's naturally light and fruity Speyside spirit into a deeply decadent whisky packed with dark chocolate, sticky sweetness and concentrated dried fruit. Cocoa, rum raisin fudge and fruitcake lead into treacle pudding, butterscotch and warming pastry spice. Despite its formidable 61.7% ABV, the whisky is described as remarkably rich and balanced, finishing with an enormous lingering depth of Pedro Ximénez sherry character.

Nose: Like unwrapping a bar of dark chocolate, with rich cocoa, rum raisin fudge and dense fruitcake. Butterscotch and sticky PX sweetness add an indulgent, dessert-like depth.

Palate: Exceptionally rich and full-bodied, with high-cocoa dark chocolate, treacle-soaked pudding and cinnamon Danish pastry. Layers of warming spice build across the palate, supported by concentrated dried fruit and deep sherried sweetness.

Finish: Long, powerful and intensely sherried, with lingering dark chocolate, treacle, dried fruit and warming spice. The enormous PX influence continues long after the alcohol warmth fades.

Braeval Distillery, formerly known as Braes of Glenlivet, is located in Speyside and is known for producing a light, elegant and fruity malt that has traditionally played an important role in major blended Scotch whiskies. Its tall, slender pot stills contribute to this delicate spirit style, making Braeval particularly responsive to expressive cask maturation. The Uncharted Whisky Co. specializes in independently bottled single-cask and small-batch whiskies, selecting distinctive spirits and pairing them with carefully chosen casks.
