Detailed Description

A rare 17-year-old single-cask Craigellachie distilled in 2008 and bottled by Duncan Taylor for The Octave series in 2025. Finished in a Madeira wine octave cask #7547083, the release produced only 63 bottles. The Madeira influence adds rich dark fruit, sweet spice and pastry notes to Craigellachie’s naturally robust, waxy and fruit-driven Speyside character.

Nose: Dark fruits, Christmas pudding and Danish pastry with baked apple, roasted nuts, sweet spices and a touch of worn leather.

Palate: Rich and full-bodied, with spiced fruit pie, Madeira sweetness, creamy malt and warm milk, followed by roasted nuts, liquorice and gentle oak.

Finish: Long, sweet and chewy, with lingering dark fruit, baking spice, liquorice and toasted oak.

Distillery Information

Craigellachie Distillery was established in 1891 in the heart of Speyside and is known for producing a robust, muscular style of single malt with distinctive fruity and slightly sulphury character. The distillery is particularly associated with traditional worm-tub condensers, which contribute weight and texture to its spirit. Today, Craigellachie forms part of the Bacardi-owned Dewar’s portfolio. Duncan Taylor’s The Octave series focuses on finishing mature whiskies in small octave casks, increasing wood contact and allowing secondary maturation to impart concentrated wine and spirit-cask characteristics.
