Diplomatico Chancellor Rum | 700ML

Diplomático Chancellor has been launched to sit at the pinnacle of Diplomático's Prestige Range. The Venezuelan distillery has been making rum since 1959 and Chancellor brings together some of its most complex, heavy pot-still rums, heightened by triple-cask maturation process in French virgin oak, American virgin oak, and seasoned American oak casks. Tipped to be its most complex expression to date, it's bottled at 47% ABV and designed to be sipped neat and aimed at rum drinkers who appreciate this level of showmanship.

Diplomatico Chancellor Rum | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Caramel, vanilla, honey, dried raisins, orange peel, cocoa, roasted almonds, toasted oak, and warm baking spices.

Palate: Rich toffee, vanilla cream, dark chocolate, dried fruits, caramelised nuts, cinnamon, nutmeg, oak spice, and a smooth, velvety texture with gentle sweetness.

Finish: Long and elegant, with lingering caramel, cocoa, vanilla, dried fruits, roasted nuts, and soft oak spice.

Distillery Information

The Diplomatico rum range is produced in Venezuela by the talented Destilerias Unidas S.A. (DUSA), which lies at the foot of the Andes Mountains. The distillery was previously owned by Licorerias Unidas S.A. (LUSA), with Seagrams being the biggest shareholder in the early days. In 2002, LUSA went up for sale and was bought by a group of Venezuelan entrepreneurs and soon became 100% Venezuelan and privately owned. The inspiration for the Diplomatico name comes from Don Juancho Nieto Melendez, whose portrait adorns their labels. He was rather fond of rum and interesting in its production process, including such intricate little details like how environmental-factors affect the flavour profile. He also had a rather handsome collection of rums from his travels to the Caribbean, which his friends called ‘The Ambassador’s Reserves’ - he certainly sounds like the chap you’d want to name a rum brand after!
