Four Roses Experimental Series No. 001 Mizunara Cask Finish marks a major first for the historic Kentucky distillery: its inaugural Experimental Series release and its first bourbon finished in a secondary cask. The whiskey begins as a six-year-old OBSK bourbon before being finished in rare Japanese Mizunara oak, selected to complement the recipe's naturally spicy character. The result brings together classic Four Roses vanilla, brown sugar and toasted oak with Mizunara's distinctive sandalwood, incense-like aromatics and exotic spice.

Nose: Floral vanilla and brown sugar, followed by cinnamon and soft baking spice. Sandalwood-like oak, subtle herbal notes and delicate fruit add an exotic aromatic character.

Palate: Rich baking spice leads into vanilla, caramel and toasted oak. Cinnamon, allspice, almond and floral sweetness are layered with the distinctive fragrant wood character of Mizunara.

Finish: Long, warm and spicy, with lingering sandalwood, herbal spice and almond. Toasted oak and subtle floral sweetness gradually fade with an elegant Mizunara-driven dryness.

Distillery Information

Four Roses Distillery traces its history back to 1888 and has become one of Kentucky's most distinctive bourbon producers through its unique system of ten proprietary whiskey recipes. Produced from two different mash bills and five yeast strains, these recipes allow the distillery to create a broad range of flavour profiles while maintaining the recognisable Four Roses style. Located in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, the distillery has built an international reputation for its elegant, fruit-forward bourbons and carefully controlled blending. The Experimental Series represents a new chapter for Four Roses, expanding beyond its traditional recipe framework through limited releases focused on new maturation and finishing techniques.
