Distilled in March 2015, this 11-year-old Speyside single malt spent ten years maturing in a bourbon hogshead before being transferred to a Napa Valley Chardonnay barrique for its final year. The wine cask finish adds layers of yellow fruit, almond pastry, and ginger, complementing Glen Elgin’s naturally honeyed and waxy character. Bottled at cask strength without chill filtration or added colouring, it offers a rich combination of creamy sweetness, ripe orchard fruit, and warming spice. The result is an expressive single-cask whisky that balances classic Speyside fruitiness with the distinctive influence of Californian Chardonnay cask maturation.

Nose: Peach sweets, dried mirabelle plum, apricot, and white grape must, followed by almond croissant, icing sugar, and amaretti.

Palate: Creamy lemon curd, ripe peach, pear, and chamomile honey, complemented by toasted almonds, buttery frangipane, and a touch of nutmeg.

Finish: Lingering brown sugar, almond cake, and juicy plum, followed by warming ginger spice.

Distillery Information

Glen Elgin Distillery was established in 1898 near Elgin in the Speyside region of Scotland, with production beginning in 1900. Designed by renowned distillery architect Charles Doig, it became known for producing a fruity, honeyed single malt that contributes substantially to blended Scotch whisky. The distillery expanded in the 1960s with the installation of additional stills, increasing its production capacity. Its spirit is recognised for its approachable fruit character, delicate floral notes, and rounded malt sweetness. Blind Summit is an independent whisky bottler based in Leith, Edinburgh, founded in 2023 by two whisky enthusiasts. The company focuses on selecting individual casks and presenting distinctive Scotch whiskies through small releases that highlight the influence of maturation and the character of each spirit.
