This 2003 Glen Grant was initially aged for 19 years in a refill hogshead before spending just over three years in a first fill sherry hogshead, then bottled at 52% ABV.

Nose: An immediately rich sherry profile, with dates and prunes soaked in Armagnac, sultanas, fig molasses, dark chocolate and tobacco, all wrapped in polished oak.

Palate: Luscious dark fruit, with soft wood spice and cedar, touched by tiny gamey notes, plum wine, aniseed and camphor, all carried on syrupy sweetness and polished oak.

Finish: Long, luxurious, the finish lingers with pine wood resins and unlit cigars, touched by rancio and a hint of woodruff. Dark chocolate deepens as walnut wine threads through, leaving an elegant, nutty sweetness that slowly fades.

Distillery Information

Glen Grant was founded in Rothes in 1840 by brothers John and James Grant, and from the start it built a reputation around innovation as much as whisky. The Grants were involved in the development of the Morayshire Railway Company, helping improve transport through Speyside, and by 1861 Glen Grant had introduced electric lighting. A defining new chapter began in 1872, when James “The Major” Grant took over and expanded the distillery, introducing tall, slender stills and water-cooling purifiers that remain central to the distillery’s lighter, more elegant style.
