Great Wagon Road Distillery RUA Release #56 American Single Malt Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose: Bright toasty malt, molasses, honey, caramel, fresh milled grains, fine sawdust from sweet spring oak, fresh toast with honey-butter; with more air comes buttery caramel, some cream on a bready fruit compote like nectarine or peachā¦
Palate: Young for sure, but whip smart; molasses, dried figs and plumbs, fresh cream and vanilla, a tart peach or apricot jam on swallowing, a dusting of a bright cinnamon and brown sugar blend, the flavors setting every inch of my palate on alert.
Finish: Warm, the fresh fruit compote and jam lingering nicely, a dusting of the toasty malt and bread flavors, a whiff of that young barley and wood, all lingering quite awhileā¦
Distillery Information
Founded by Irish native, Oliver āOllieā Mulligan, Great Wagon Road Distilling Co is the oldest distillery in Charlotte, North Carolina and the first one to have itās own speakeasy attached. Although Ollie is the first in his family to make legal spirits, three generations ago in the midlands of Ireland, Ollieās grandfather Patrick Quinn began the family tradition of whiskey making, and in 2013, after a handshake and a few pints with a mate, Ollie Mulligan established Great Wagon Road Distilling Co. to carry on his family tradition of whiskey craftsmanship.
