Hellyers Road 19 Year Old Cask #4085.05 Peated New Vibrations Single Malt Whisky | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich, dense. Combining rich peat, castor oil and ash, the first nose takes on animal tones (leather, bacon). Allowed to breathe, it becomes increasingly medicinal (tiger balm) and empyreumatic (sleet, turpentine). Fragrances of roasted apple, curry and roasted pineapple are then released.

Palate: Powerful, lively. On the attack, the same oily peat permeates the palate, filled with mineral salts and marine plants. The acrid yet heady flavours of Havana cigar then take over the flavour palette, gradually covering it in intense smoke and ash.

Finish: Long, rich. Chocolate and vanilla notes rival each other in intensity. Peat takes control of the infinitely smooth palette of flavours. Candied pear and heady florals (mimosa, nasturtium) appear alongside especially crisp malted flavours in the after-taste.

Distillery Information

The trail was once bush – bush that in 1827 was carved out by Henry Hellyer, an explorer and cartographer who, according to local legend, had little more than a bullock gang and the most basic of tools. Today, this road once named in his honour is home to a whisky distillery now named in his honour.
