Detailed Description
Detailed Description
Distilled at Invergordon in 1974, this exceptional single grain Scotch whisky was matured for 50 years in a single bourbon barrel before being selected and bottled by independent bottler Finn Thomson. Released as part of the prestigious Crown Collection, it was bottled at its natural cask strength of 47.1% ABV without chill filtration or added colouring, preserving the full character developed across five decades in oak.
Invergordon Finn Thomson Single Cask 50 Year Old · 1974 Vintage Single Grain Scotch Whisky | 700ML Tasting Notes
Nose: Ripe peaches and nectarines with delicate vanilla cream, coconut and soft almond. Mature oak develops gradually alongside gentle polished-wood notes and a refined sweetness.
Palate: Exceptionally smooth and velvety, with ripe stone fruits, vanilla cream and soft coconut. Almond, gentle caramelised sweetness and delicate mature oak add depth while preserving the whisky's elegant grain character.
Finish: Long, smooth and graceful, with lingering peaches and cream, soft vanilla, coconut and gentle oak. The finish remains refined and delicately sweet rather than overly tannic.
Distillery Information
Invergordon was founded in 1959 and began operations in 1961, making it a relatively modern distillery by Scotch whisky standards. Built in the Highland town of the same name, it is unusual in being a grain distillery in a region better known for single malt, and it remains Scotland’s northernmost grain distillery. The site was created to produce whisky on a large scale, and it later became part of Whyte & Mackay in 1993.
