Maker’s Mark was founded in 1953 by Bill Samuels Sr., who sought to create a smoother, more approachable bourbon using red winter wheat instead of rye. Located in Loretto, Kentucky, the distillery is known for its handcrafted production methods and signature red wax-dipped bottles. Unlike many distilleries, Maker’s Mark rotates barrels within the warehouse to ensure consistent maturation. The brand emphasizes flavor balance and smoothness rather than aggressive oak influence.
