Michter’s US★1 Barrel Strength Sour Mash is the first-ever barrel-strength release of the brand’s US★1 Sour Mash Whiskey, introduced in 2026. Produced using Michter’s traditional sour mash method and matured in toasted and fire-charred new American white oak barrels, the whiskey is batched but left uncut before its signature filtration.

Nose: Sweet aromatics of ripe cherry and plum with honey, powdered cocoa and warm baking spice.

Palate: Rich and concentrated, with cherries, plums and stone fruit layered with cocoa, honeyed sweetness and developing spice.

Finish: Long and balanced, with lingering dark fruit, cocoa, honey, toasted oak and warming spice.

Distillery Information

Michter’s traces its heritage to America's early whiskey-making tradition, with the original company founded in Pennsylvania before the modern brand was revived in Kentucky. Today, Michter’s operates distilleries in Louisville, including its historic Fort Nelson Distillery, and focuses on limited-production American whiskeys. The company places particular emphasis on barrel selection and maturation, with Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson selecting barrels only when they reach the desired level of maturity. The 10 Year Rye has been one of Michter’s most sought-after limited releases since its modern reintroduction in 2014.
