Nikka Whisky was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, a Japanese chemist who studied whisky production in Scotland before bringing his knowledge back to Japan. In 1969, the company expanded with the establishment of Miyagikyo Distillery near Sendai, broadening its production capabilities and whisky styles.
