A limited 16-year-old Old Pulteney matured for six years in a Pinot Noir cask, creating a distinctive combination of sweet red-fruit character and Old Pulteney’s maritime Highland spirit. Bottled at natural cask strength as part of Whisky Craft Season Four, Single Cask #13 produced just 256 bottles. The result balances strawberry and red-fruit sweetness with brine, spice and a warming coastal character.

Nose: Strawberry jam on toast, sweet red berries and ripe fruit with subtle savoury notes, salted meat and fresh coastal brine.

Palate: Sweet and immediately warming, with strawberry and red fruit followed by peppery spice, sea salt and a pronounced maritime character.

Finish: Long and warming, gradually softening into lingering red-fruit sweetness, coastal brine and gentle spice.

Distillery Information

Old Pulteney was founded in 1826 by James Henderson in Wick, Caithness, during the height of the town’s famous herring-fishing industry. Its coastal location has long influenced the character associated with the distillery, giving its whisky a distinctive maritime personality. Production ceased in 1930 after Wick became subject to local prohibition, before the distillery eventually reopened in 1951. Old Pulteney is now owned by Inver House Distillers and remains one of the northernmost whisky distilleries on the Scottish mainland.
