Detailed Description

Shenk's Homestead 2026 is a limited-production Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey from Michter's Legacy Series, honoring John Shenk, who founded the original Shenk's Distillery in Pennsylvania in 1753. The 2026 recipe is notably rye-forward and incorporates caramel malted barley, contributing a rich caramel bread-pudding character alongside the whiskey's natural spice. Matured whiskey was also finished in specially toasted, uncharred French oak from France's Vosges region, adding refined wood complexity. The result is a full-bodied but balanced whiskey combining caramel sweetness, rye spice, dried fruit and polished oak.

Finish: Long and warming, with lingering caramel, sweet oak, cinnamon, peppery rye spice and soft dried-fruit notes.

Distillery Information

Michter’s traces its heritage to America's early whiskey-making tradition, with the original company founded in Pennsylvania before the modern brand was revived in Kentucky. Today, Michter’s operates distilleries in Louisville, including its historic Fort Nelson Distillery, and focuses on limited-production American whiskeys. The company places particular emphasis on barrel selection and maturation, with Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson selecting barrels only when they reach the desired level of maturity. The 10 Year Rye has been one of Michter’s most sought-after limited releases since its modern reintroduction in 2014.
