The Mascarenhas Fiuza Family has been dedicated to winemaking for over a century. The company began its activity at the beginning of the 20th century. Mr. Joaquim Mascarenhas Fiuza, son of D. Luísa Mascarenhas (sister of the 10th Marquis of Fronteira and 9th Marquis of Alorna) began producing wine with his uncle on the properties of the Mascarenhas Fiuza Family, which has had farms in the region for centuries. In 1986, a partnership between wine producer Joaquim Mascarenhas Fiuza and the prestigious Australian winemaker Peter Bright emerged, giving rise to the company Fiuza & Bright. A pioneer in the production of French grape varieties in Portugal, Fiuza & Bright produces on its two farms (Quinta da Requeixada and Quinta da Granja) the main Portuguese grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Aragonez, Arinto, Vital, Fernão Pires or Alvarinho and also some of the main French grape varieties such as Alicante Bouschet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. Its vineyards are located in the Tagus region, in the demarcated region of Santarém and some of the best Portuguese wines have come from there, which are produced exclusively in its winery in Almeirim. As a result of all this work and care, Fiuza has received several awards and medals over the last few years. But not only in wines, Joaquim Mascarenhas Fiuza won medals. In fact, his daily life was divided between winemaking and the famous water sport, Sailing, in the "Star" category. As an athlete, starring in victorious participation in the most varied competitions and countries, he stood out above all in the Olympic Games in Berlin, in 1936, in London in 1948 and in 1952, in Helsinki, having won the well-deserved Bronze Medal in the latter. In that same year of 52, in a pair with Rebelo Carvalho, he achieved fourth place in the World Championship. In 1957 and 1958, he fulfilled his dream of becoming European Champion. He was also National Champion nine times.
