A smashing Swedish single malt from Smögen, independently bottled by Decadent Drinks. This peated whisky was distilled in 2016 and spent the next eight years maturing, beginning in a pair of oloroso sherry casks and finishing in a second-fill sherry hogshead before it was bottled at a big, bold 57.1% ABV. A generously sherried, heavily peated treat right here.

Distillery Information

Smögen Whisky, on Sweden's west coast, is known for its unique whisky. Founded in 2009 by Pär Caldenby, a whisky lover and author, it makes single malt whisky. It's famous for bold flavours and an artisanal style. The distillery's location shapes its whisky's character. The harsh sea climate and salty winds affect maturation. This gives the whisky its distinct taste. Smögen combines tradition with a focus on intense flavour and top-quality ingredients. They use local barley, heavily peated to Caldenby's standards. This leads to a strong, smoky taste, a key feature of Smögen whiskies. The making process is carefully managed for quality. Distillation is done in a small copper pot still. This allows precise control and creates a rich spirit. The whisky ages in selected oak casks, including American and European oak, often used for bourbon or sherry. This adds complex flavours to the spirit. Smögen whiskies are known for strong peatiness, bold character, and complex tastes. They often have spicy, maritime notes and rich maltiness. The casks add vanilla, toffee, dark fruit, and nutty flavours, depending on the wood and cask's history.
