Taylor Fladgate | VVOP White Port

Taylor Fladgate VVOP White is an exceptionally rare Very Very Old White Port, created from historic White Ports aged for more than 80 years in seasoned oak casks. Some components of this extraordinary blend date back as far as 1896, making it the oldest White Port ever released by the house. Long maturation has concentrated the wine into a remarkably complex expression while preserving impressive freshness and acidity. Dried apricot, almond biscotti and orange zest combine with floral notes of lavender, jasmine and orange blossom, while the palate develops roasted nuts, honeycomb, saffron and a delicate saline character.

Taylor Fladgate is one of the great historic Port houses, with a heritage extending back more than three centuries. Based in Vila Nova de Gaia, the house has built its reputation around the production and long-term maturation of fine Port wines, particularly Vintage Port and exceptionally old cask-aged expressions. Its extensive cellars preserve rare reserves that have been cared for by successive generations of coopers, cellar masters and blenders. The VVOP White release represents the culmination of this long-term stewardship, drawing on White Ports that were laid down decades before their eventual bottling. Some of the vineyards that contributed to these historic wines no longer exist, making the release a genuine liquid record of another era in the Douro Valley.
