Iona's First Edition is a distinctive experimental release from Torabhaig's Distiller's Series, created by distiller Iona Macphie. Inspired by her walks through the wild landscapes of Skye and her love of a dram alongside dark chocolate, this expression explores a richer side of Torabhaig's spirit. Using unpeated malt alongside 10% chocolate malt, it delivers an unusually deep and indulgent profile, combining vanilla, cocoa butter and dark chocolate with malted cereal, citrus and subtle tropical fruit. Matured in first-fill bourbon casks and refill sherry butts and bottled at a powerful natural cask strength of 60.9% ABV, it balances roasted richness with dark fruit, warming spice and fresh ginger.

Nose: Soft vanilla sweetness and creamy cocoa butter, followed by dark chocolate and rich malted cereal. Bright citrus and subtle tropical notes add freshness and lift to the deeper roasted character.

Palate: Warming and expressive, with clove and a cool hint of peppermint developing into richer spice. Caramel and toffee are joined by redcurrant, raisin and toasted oak, while a thread of fresh ginger builds steadily through the palate.

Finish: Long, vibrant and warmly spiced, with persistent ginger, peppercorn and cinnamon. Returning vanilla sweetness softens the spice and leaves a fresh, balanced and gracefully lingering finish.

Distillery Information

Only the second ever licensed Single Malt Scotch Whisky distillery on the Isle of Skye, only 200 years in the waiting until 2020 resulted in the first single malt whisky produced by Torabhaig distillery. After a painstaking 4 year restoration and build, Torabhaig has been fully operational since January 2017. The distillery was built on the old farmstead at Torabhaig, identified as the perfect location for a small, traditional distillery with the huge added bonus of the purest island spring water available just on its doorstep.
