Detailed Description

Valdespino Vermouth Origen is a premium Jerez vermouth built around a blend of very old Oloroso and Moscatel wines, combining the richness of aged Sherry with citrus, herbal, and bitter botanical character. The wine is aromatised with mugwort, coriander, elderberry, gentian, chamomile, clove, cinnamon, dried Seville orange, and juniper. The finished blend is aged in casks previously used for Valdespino Oloroso, adding depth, spice, and polished oxidative character. The result is a complex, bittersweet and gently sweet vermouth with bright citrus freshness and a distinctly Andalusian personality.

Valdespino Vermouth Origen Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich dried orange peel, Seville orange, chamomile, juniper, coriander, cinnamon, clove, and gentle oxidative Sherry notes. Sweet Moscatel brings floral aromas alongside earthy herbs and subtle bitter roots.

Palate: Full and silky, with sweet orange, dried fruit, Oloroso richness, chamomile, gentian, coriander, cinnamon, clove, and juniper. Balanced between natural sweetness and a pleasant herbal bitterness, with a warm, spicy character.

Finish: Long and bittersweet, with lingering orange peel, dried fruit, aromatic herbs, gentle spice, juniper, and nutty Oloroso notes. The finish gradually becomes drier and more herbal, leaving a refined citrus bitterness.

Distillery Information

Bodegas Valdespino has an exceptionally long history in Jerez, with the Valdespino name associated with wine activity in the region as early as 1430 and the modern company established in 1875. The house became particularly renowned for traditional Sherry production and long-aged solera wines, including its prestigious Oloroso expressions. Valdespino has produced aperitifs and vermouths since the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, using recipes based on Sherry, bitter roots, botanicals, fruit, and spices. In 1999, the historic bodega became part of Grupo Estévez, which revived these traditional aperitif recipes and brought Valdespino Vermouth back to the market.
